Welcome to everybody to the official website of Steve Zacchia.After being the youngest Swiss driver to take part of the 24 Hours of le Mans in 2003 (20 years old), Steve wants to continue writing the history of Swiss motorsport .... He is, from the 20th of May, the first driver in the world who homologated an HYBRID prototype for the legendary "24 Hours of Le Mans" race!His 2011 season starts at the 6 hours of Spa Francorchamps, in the Hope Racing LMP1 ORECA-SwissHYTECH Hybrid, on Saturday 7th May 2011.Then the 24 Hours of Le Mans will come soon after in June.....After the 24 Hours of Le Mans, we'll continue travelling around the world with stops in Italy, England, USA and we'll finish in China!As Steve McQueen says:"Racing is life, anything before or after is just waiting!"

Promising start at Le Mans

26.04.2011The HOPE Racing hybrid LMP1 (photos) ran its first few laps on the Le Mans racetrack at the Le Mans 24h official trial day organized last Sunday. These first race laps after having completed just one previous trial session the week before showed a lot of promise. In front of some 25 000 spectators, Steve Zacchia completed about twenty laps onboard the hybrid LMP1 n°5 at the average speed of 214,3 km/h. With a best lap of 348954, he finished 13th in the LMP1 category ranking, 21st overall and amongst the leaders for petrol prototype cars.During these free trial sessions, in which 53 other cars took part, the « Kers » technology of absorbing the cinetic energy back was used 20% of the time that had been spent on the track. The day before, during the technical validation process, the chassis and gear box of the hybrid LMP1 had received final approval and certification for racing.

26.02.2011The «KERS»As in any human adventure we need good partners on whom we can rely. Flybrid Systems is a private company which specifically develops KERS technology (Kinetic Energy Recovery System) for motor sport, and also for touring cars and industry. The company, based in the Silverstone Technology Park, was founded in 2007 by former Renault F1 engineers, John Hilton and Doug Cross.Their KERS consists of a carbon wheel housed in an evacuated chamber, which rotates at up to 60.000 rpm when the car brakes. Thisflywheel is linked to the gearbox and discharges the kinetic energy thatit has stocked under acceleration on the exit from the corner.The system’s major advantage is the complete absence of a battery. In addition, because of its smallness (around 30 cm in diameter)and its low weight (under 40 kgs), it is of great ecological interest as not only does it not require any heavy metals, but above all, it is recyclable.In terms of performance we reckon that in a lap of the Le Mans circuit we can recuperate enough energy to reduce our lap times and fuel consumption significantly to widen the gaps between refuelling stops in a telling manner. Concerning road performance, the development of this technology is good for both the driver and his vehicle. Indeed, the Jaguar XF Flybrid project is based on a 2-year programme that will result in a working prototype. The first estimates are very optimistic because the fuel savings are calculated as being in the region of 20%, and at least the same for CO2 emissions.

20.01.2011The whole Hope PoleVision Racing team is delighted to announce the confirmation of Steve Zacchia as one of the drivers in the LM P1 hybrid programme in 2011.Benoît Morand:For us, it was a priority to have Steve in the team. Last year in the LMS Championship he increased his speed throughout the season. Hefinished second with his team-mate Olivier Lombard after a ding-dong battle for first place in the final round at Silverstone. His two team-mates will beconfirmed in a few days.Steve is the perfect embodiment of our values and here are his recent comments:The 2011 hybrid project is a huge challenge. It interests me all the more as it is a challenge in keeping with the needs of our times with implications for racing as well as road use. Obviously, my passion as a driver tends to push me in the direction of its advantages on the race track (laughs). In fact, in relation to the other teams its a daunting challenge as not everybody is racing with hybrid technology, and to be a driver of one of the first cars with this technology is exceptional, all the more so as Im part of a small team thats taking on the big boys!

6.11.2010Hope PoleVision Racing announces its 2011 programme :"From Gruyère to the most mythical race, the Le Mans 24 Hours, while protecting the environment."Jean-Marie Brulhart and Benoît Morand from Fribourg are the co-owners of the Hope PoleVisionTeam, and they have always had a clear aim in mind - to race in the Le Mans 24 Hours with aninnovative technology.For the two associates, the future of motor sport lies in the development of clean technologies, which protect and respect the environment, as well as the promotion of an eco-responsible attitude.Jean-Marie Brulhart: "In my opinion being eco-responsible is to search for sustainable solutions, which will drive a global advance in what is a vital area for future generations. As I see it, it's not a question of killing the spirit of innovation, but rather looking deep inside ourselves to find the solutions, and create the right framework to achieve these aims while taking the current restrictions into account."The Hope PoleVision Racing team has been competing in Formula Le Mans for 2 years, and next year it will also enter an LM P1 hybrid. The car based on an Oreca chassis will be powered by an enginedeveloped in collaboration with the famous tuner, Lehmann from Triesen. This engine will have hybrid technology designed by the Flybird Company by which a carbon disc stocks the kinetic energygenerated under braking, and releases it as the car accelerates out of the corner. This system developed for the F1 Honda F1 will soon be adapted to the everyday motor car, in particular the future roadgoingJaguars.The 2-litre turbo engine is on the test bed, and will be installed in the Oreca chassis between now and the start of 2011. The Swiss team is determined to combine the best there is in the world of motorsport. In addition, to Oreca, Lehmann and Flybird, Hope PoleVision Racing will use an X-Trac gearbox with the gear change mounted on the steering wheel. The rollout of the prototype will take place in February on the Paul Ricard HTTT circuit.Benoît Morand: "It's a huge challenge that awaits us as we'll be the first private team to race an LMP1 hybrid in 2011! We've chosen competent, experienced people in each of the sectors of the car. Ourno. 1 aim is reliability, which is of primordial importance. We want to be in a position to run just behind the works teams, to stand out and catch the eye of a manufacturer in view of 2012. To aim for outright victory, we'll need the resources of a factory squad to be able to take the fight to the frontrunners!"The Hope PoleVision Racing team's hybrid will be entered for the 2011 Intercontinental Le Mans Cup with the Le Mans 24 Hours on 11th/12th June as the high point of the season. Drivers and sponsors will be announced in the near future.This technological challenge would not have been possible without close collaboration with the ACO (Automobile Club de l'Ouest), its engineering specialists and management who are open to anevolution of motor sport aimed at eco-responsibility, but without concession to the passion and technology that drives all the players in the sector.Hugues de Chaunac, the ORECA Group President: "Entering an LM P1 Hybrid in 2011 is an exciting challenge, and we're delighted that the Hope PoleVision Racing team has taken it up with the ORECA01. Steve ZacchiaUn titre de champion lors du championnat dendurance de 1000 KM sur circuit en 2004, avec le Team Larbre Compétition, au volant dune Ferrari. 1ère équipe privée en 2003 au 24 Heures du Mans avec Christophe Bouchut et Patrice Goueslard, Steve Zacchia nous donne son interprétation du point 7 de la charte "Fair Play" : "rester digne dans la victoire comme dans la défaite".Résidant à Nonfoux, Steve est un pilote chevronné et pourrait nous parler des heures de son sport. En 2008, courant en prototype LMP2 en Le Mans Série (avec 2 autres pilotes qui se relayent pendant la course), la malchance a poursuivi le Team tout au long de la saison. Après une brillante 2ème place lors de la première course, ils ont dû abandonner lors des 3 courses suivantes à quelques tours de la fin, alors qu'ils se battaient pour la victoire ! A chaque fois sur casses mécaniques de pièces mineures.En vivant toutes ces émotions avec le Team (20 personnes avec les mécanos), la mise en pratique du point 7 de la charte se vérifie à chaque course, car il faut savoir partager la victoire, en faisant preuve d'humilité, partager la défaite, en l'acceptant même si quelques fois elle est rageante. C'est un travail d'équipe où la confiance en chacune et chacun est la règle d'or.Et Steve de conclure : c'est dans la défaite que se révèlent les vraies valeurs, comme dans la victoire.
